SUVs have become a popular choice for car buyers in India, with one in every two cars sold being a Utility Vehicle (UV). Car manufacturers have realized the potential of this segment and are planning to launch multiple new models in different price segments. Here are the key details of the top 5 new SUVs that will be available in the coming months.
- Maruti Fronx
The Maruti Fronx is a compact crossover and will be the first major product launch from the Indo-Japanese automaker in 2023. The prices will be announced in mid-April 2023. It will compete against the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Tata Punch. The car will be available in Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha trims, with a choice of a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol Boosterjet and a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. There will be three gearboxes on offer – a 5-speed manual (standard), a 5-speed AMT (NA petrol only), and a 6-speed torque converter automatic (turbo-petrol only).
- Maruti Jimny
The Maruti Jimny 5-door will go on sale in late May 2023. The SUV comes in two trims – Zeta and Alpha – which are expected to cost between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 13 lakh. Under the hood, the SUV employs a 1.5L K15B petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. The motor produces a peak power of 103bhp and 134Nm of torque. Buyers can choose from a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The new SUV has Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro drivetrain system with a dedicated low-ratio transfer case. Its ground clearance stands at 210mm.
- Citroen C3 Aircross
The new Citroen C3 Aircross will make its debut on April 27th, with its market launch likely to happen in the coming months. The SUV is around 4.3 metres in length and is expected to come in both 5-seat and 7-seat options. The model could be powered by a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine borrowed from the C3 hatchback. The gasoline unit produces a peak power of 110bhp and 190Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be available. The C3 Aircross will share most of its design elements and features with its hatchback sibling.
- Honda Midsize SUV
Honda Cars India is ready to mark its entry into the highly competitive midsize SUV segment in mid-2023. The new Honda SUV will make its global debut in April 2023. Its official specifications are yet to be revealed, but it’s likely to come with the 1.5L iVTEC petrol and 1.5L Atkinson cycle with e: HEV hybrid tech powertrain options. One of its major feature attractions will be the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite. The SUV will also have an electronic parking brake, 6 airbags, a Lane Watch system, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, and a 360-degree camera on offer.
5. Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus
The Mahindra Bolero Neo Plus is a new 7-seater SUV that was recently seen being tested. It has a powerful 1.5L diesel engine that delivers 100bhp and comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There are three different variants available, including a 7-seater, an 8-seater, and a dedicated ambulance option for emergency services. The SUV shares its platform, design elements, interior, and features with the Bolero Neo. While the official launch date for the Bolero Neo Plus is not yet announced, it is expected to hit showrooms in the coming months. The price of the Bolero Neo Plus is expected to be approximately Rs 1 lakh more than the Bolero Neo.
