Volkswagen Passat electric alternative: ultra-large and 606 km autonomous

In the German manufacturer’s lineup, the electric Volkswagen ID.7 took the position of the Volkswagen Passat sedan. Only the most recent models in the range with internal combustion engines are offered. However, that doesn’t stop the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer, the ID.7’s family member, from making its debut.

It is one of the few electric family cars available, measuring 4.96 metres in length and having a trunk capacity ranging from 545 to 1,714 litres. This adds to the 4.64-meter Peugeot E-308 SW, 5.06-meter BMW i5 Touring, and 4.60-meter MG 5.

The base price of the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer, which has a single finish and one mechanical configuration, is 58,775 euros, which is 1,700 euros higher than that of the ID.7 sedan.

Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer: 1 engine, 2 finishes

The ID.7 Tourer follows the same mechanical layout and is no different. That is to say, the maximum range on the WLTP cycle for the Tourer is 606 km (616 km) with a 286 HP engine on the rear axle coupled to a 77 kWh effective battery (82 kWh total). In the upcoming months, a GTX variant with all-wheel drive and 340 horsepower will be added to the range.

The ID.7 Tourer’s strength is its cargo volume, which is one of the reasons it’s a family car that people can like despite its unassuming appearance. There is 545 litres of storage capacity available in the current setup.

Thus, it is comparable to the BMW i5 Touring’s 570 litres, which is 10 centimetres longer than the Volkswagen (5.06 metres for the BMW and 4.96 metres for the Volkswagen). Strangely, even though the ID.7 sedan is 4 cm shorter (4.92 m) than the Passat SW, its volume is 145 litres less and 7 litres greater.

The ID.7 Tourer has adjustable rear seatback angles to make up for its small baggage room. The luggage capacity rises to 605 litres when the vehicle is fully upright, however, passenger comfort with the 90° backrest is negatively impacted.

Pro and Pro “More” finishes are two further ways that the Tourer body differs from the Volkswagen ID.7 sedan. Due to more extensive standard equipment, the ID.7 Tourer’s ultimate price is 61,820 euros.
